Teeling Small Batch Irish Whiskey
Continuing on the good-bang-for-your-buck trend, our next review is on an Irish whiskey, Teeling Small Batch. The Small Batch is Teeling’s core product, which is a blend of both grain and malt whiskey each aged in ex-bourbon barrels. According to the website, this blend is then married in Central American rum casks for up to 12 months. However, the bottle I will be reviewing was bottled in November 2019 and states that it was finished in rum casks for 6 months so perhaps the newer releases have a little longer finish to them, I will have to find one and compare.
ABV: 46%
How it smells…maple, banana, cherry, and some metallic/copper whiffs.
How it tastes…Starts off with some banana, honey and green apple, followed by cherry cola and ends with some spice. The finish is sweet and a bit grassy. Very sweet from start to finish.
Price..$30

Final thoughts…This is a really really nice sip. Very smooth and sweet throughout but it has a lot going on, especially for $30. This is my second bottle of Teeling Small Batch so I have dipped into it a bunch and it has consistently been an enjoyable experience and for a $30 price point, you can’t beat it. Even the grassy note, which I tend to steer clear of whiskeys that have grassy notes to them, works well in concert with the other flavors in this one. Looks like Teeling produces a number of other releases that I’m going to have to hunt down and try….
