1792 Small Batch Bourbon
Apologies dear reader, I inadvertently have been reviewing some higher priced bottles, so I will focus my next few reviews on lower price point whiskeys as while I enjoy nice bottles, I love finding undervalued gems even more.
1792 Small Batch Bourbon is made by the Barton distillery which is owned by Sazerac who also owns Buffalo Trace and all of their great whiskeys. The Small Batch Bourbon is the core product for 1792, but they also have a slew of other “Limited Edition Expressions” including Sweet Wheat (I’ll be reviewing that in the near future), Single Barrel (same), and Full Proof (same), as well as Bottled in Bond, 12 Year Old, High Rye, and Port Finish, each of which I would love to review once I get my hands on them.
As a NAS Straight Bourbon, we can infer that it is at least 4 years old.
ABV: 46.85%
How it smells…vanilla bomb, oak and cookie dough.
How it tastes…this is less of a traditional start-middle-end-finish taste and more of a flavor explosion with a finish. All at once you get the pop of vanilla, oak, honey, and spice with a drying finish of more vanilla and cinnamon.

Final thoughts…Ever since I visited the distillery with a friend a few years ago, I have always kept a bottle of 1792 on my shelf. The Small Batch is a great standard bourbon. It doesn’t do a lot, but what it does, it does extremely well.
While not crazy complex, it checks all the boxes for me:
Tastes great and hits all the notes I want from a bourbon
Smooth from start to finish
Proofed nicely at >90%
Priced perfectly at $28-$30 at most stores
IT IS WIDELY AVAILABLE!
In a world where all your favorite bourbons are either 1) getting priced way up and/or 2) are limited to allocations, this is one that I always find on the shelf and has remained highly affordable.
