Welcome to Nice Sipper
Loch Lomond Single Cask Store Pick Aged for 15 Years
I have reviewed two Loch Lomond releases already, the first a 12 year old single malt which is part of their core release and another, which was a SMWS 20 year old single grain whisky. I liked both. This 15 year old single cask store pick has been on my shelf for a while now, so let’s see how it tastes….
SMWS G9.5 “Cargo Floating By A Varnished Boat”
Next up we will revisit another bottle from Scotch Malt Whisky Society, an independent bottler who I have done a few reviews on in the past. From all of my purchases, this one was a ginormous leap of faith on my part given the price point and the fact that it is a Single Grain Scotch Whisky, not a Single Malt. Let’s see how it went….
Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength
The last Bottle Kill Week review is Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength. This was my first Glenfarclas and it was recommended to me by someone whose whiskey tastes I highly respect. I had been eyeing a few of their bottles for quite some time so I was easily persuaded to check out this release.
Glenmorangie “A Tale of Cake”
Glenmorangie A Tale of Cake is the second “A Tale of…” Limited Edition series release that I will review, but the first that was released chronologically……Let them have cake?
Loch Lomond 12 Year Old
Previously, I did some reviews on affordable whiskies but I wanted to do another single malt that I have on my shelf that was at the same price point as the Glen Moray Elgin Classic Port Finish (SPOILER: I didn’t like the $30 Glen Moray). This is the Loch Lomond 12 year old. My previous attempt at this price point failed, but it was also a NAS. I’m not sure if a cheap “well aged” one will be better or worse, but let’s find out.
SMWS 68.59 “Crunch or Crackle”
The next review will take a look at another Scotch Malt Whisky Society release, No.68.59 “Crunch or Crackle” which is a 12 year old single malt distilled in Aug. 2008. For those that do not recall from my previous SMWS post, the first number in the “code” represents the distillery, which while they do not market the name of the distillery, it is widely available to find on the internet. This particular bottle comes from Blair Athol, a Highland distillery.
Aberfeldy 18 Year Red Wine Cask Finished
The Aberfeldy 18 Year Finished in French Red Wine casks from Pauillac, Bordeaux was named Whisky Advocate’s #10 (of Top 20) in 2020. I purchased it a while back but it has been sitting on my shelf waiting for a good time to open. Why not now?
Glenmorangie “A Tale of Winter”
Glenmorangie A Tale of Winter is the 2nd release of their “A Tale of…” Limited Edition releases. I’m doing this backwards by reviewing this one first, but it has been subarctic temperatures in the Northeast and what better time to crack a bottle named after Winter than when you are shivering…
