Old Forester 1910 “Old Fine Whisky”

Old Forester 1910 Bourbon

Old Forester 1910 “Old Fine Whisky” Bourbon

For the next review, we will revisit another Old Forester release from the Whiskey Row Series, the 1910 Old Fine Whisky.  I really like Old Forester and previously reviewed a couple of 1920 Prohibition Style, but this will be the first time I’ve sipped the 1910.

According to the internet, Old Forester’s mash bill is 72% Corn, 18% Rye, and 10% Malted Barley.  What we do know for certain, is that this release undergoes a second barrel aging after the initial to pay homage to a release of whiskey that came out in 1910 after a fire on the bottling line left Old Forester no option but to throw the batch back into barrels.

ABV: 46.5%

How it smells…vanilla, jasmine flowers, confectioners’ sugar, maple syrup.

How it tastes…sweet, vanilla syrup to start followed by cinnamon and ending in soft oak with a touch of almond.  The finish is spicier with some warmth, leaving your tongue tingling.

Price…$55

Rating...🥃🥃🥃🥃

Final thoughts….like other Old Forester releases, I really enjoyed this sip.  You get a little bit of heat that makes it seem like a higher proof than the 93 it is bottled at.  Overall, it is very smooth throughout and a nice balance between the sweetness of the vanilla, baking spices, and oak, which doesn’t overpower.

For those that might be taken aback by the 115 proof bottling of the 1920 Prohibition Style, this release is much more approachable while also offering some kick to those that live or die on Barrel Strength Hill.  This is another quintessential bourbon profile that won’t disappoint.

Given the flavor and the overall experience, I’m comfortable rating it at 4x 🥃, however, I did rate the 1920 at 3x-4x 🥃 and you do get some extra ABV in that release, so for pure bang-for-your-buck it may be a toss up.  Ultimately, it seems I might have to get another bottle of 1920 to do a blind head-to-head and settle the tie.  Oh darn.
