BenRiach “The Smokey Twelve”

This was my first BenRiach...the Smoky Twelve is a Speyside single malt made from both peated and unpeated malted barley and matured for a minimum of 12 years in Bourbon, Sherry and Marsala wine casks.

ABV: 46% (92 proof for the mathematically impaired)

How it smells....Some burnt sugar and molasses. Little whiff of smokiness.

How it tastes....Lightly smoky up front followed by sweet toffee. A bit of fruitiness and coffee malt finish. Light smoke lingers leaving your mouth a bit dry.

Price.…$65 - $70

Rating.…🥃🥃🥃

Final thoughts….it's a nice little scotch and a good entry-level peated scotch for those who have traditionally been too timid to dive into the category. I would pay this again for sure within a $10 premium of what I initially paid.
