Sam Houston 15 Year Old Bourbon (Release 7: Batch MA-2)
Welcome back to finish off our two-part series on aged bourbons. For the first review, we took a sip of Remus Repeal Reserve V and, while we ended up liking it, it took us a bit to get there. For this next review, we will be sipping Sam Houston 15 Year Old Bourbon. Another bottle that I have seen on the shelves for quite some time and finally broke down to pick one up. Remus Repeal Reserve V
I have seen a lot of hype around the Remus Repeal Reserve V, MGP’s in-house brand. This 2021 “medley” contains juice from two different high-rye bourbon mash bills, one with 21% Rye and one with 36% Rye. In addition to a variety of mash bills, the barrels in this release range from 2005 to 2008, making all the bourbon between 13-16 years old. In a follow up post, I will be tasting the Sam Houston 15 Year old and doing a comparison against this Remus since they are approximately the same age with similar proof profiles at 100 versus 103 proof.
